Can We Have It All?

Tucson's Water Cycle

TRIP IS FULL

In this full-day field trip we will learn about Tucson's water cycle and spend the day visiting a few collection and distribution facilities around the city. We will begin at the Twin Peaks Pumping Plant and Lower Santa Cruz recharge basins to see where Central Arizona Project water is stored by the Arizona Water Bank for later recovery by the CAP during shortages on the Colorado River. Next, we will visit Tucson Water's Sweetwater Wetlands to view a water reclamation project. Afterwards, we will visit the Roger Road Waste Water Treatment Plant and learn about effluent treatment methods. We will then tour Tohono Chul Park, a 49-acre desert preserve. We will have lunch at the park, view desert flora, and learn about water conservation before ending the trip at Metro Water's new reservoir designed to be completely underground and replanted with native desert vegetation.
